For the 2011 Around Australia Ocean Race we have nominated seven ports around Australia from which Race participants can elect to start and finish; Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Southport, Brisbane, and Hamilton Island. Added to this list are stop-over ports, including Cairns, Darwin, Broome, Albany, Esperance, Hobart, and others. Race yachts from – Fremantle starts first and Race to Adelaide, stopping over in Albany or Esperance (TBA). Fremantle and Adelaide yachts combine and race to Melbourne, part of the fleet via Hobart – part via King Island to port. Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne and Tasmania yachts combine in Melbourne and Race to Sydney. Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmanian, and Sydney yachts race to Southport. Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania, Sydney, and Southport yachts race to Brisbane. Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmanian, Sydney, Southport and Brisbane yachts Race to Hamilton Island stopping over in Keppel Bay and Airlie Beach. The balance of the Queensland Race participants join the Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania, Sydney, Southport, Brisbane, yachts and the now complete fleet race to Fremantle stopping over in Darwin and Broome. It is now around 105 days since the Fremantle Yachts started and they are now back in Fremantle. Fremantle Race Week takes place early October 2011. All Race yachts will participate in a number of Races held during Fremantle Race Week that count in the overall Around Australia Ocean Race prize giving results. The yachts that started from Fremantle have now completed their race around Australia and establish the Benchmark elapsed time and lowest points score.
 | Race Course Timing - over the top and back east Franck Gicquiaud | The Race yachts from Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania, Sydney, Southport, Brisbane, and Hamilton Island race from Fremantle to Adelaide, then from Melbourne to Sydney, then from Sydney to Southport, then from Brisbanr to Keppel and onto Hamilton Island finish with stop-over ports with yachts finishing their race as they reach their ‘home’ Start/Finish port. To download a detailed Draft Race Timeline Diagram please go to: www.sailaroundaustralia.com.au Who will be the winner? As each race yacht crosses the finish line in her selected ‘home’ Start/Finish Port her handicap elapsed time and her points scoring will be recorded. Her results will be compared with the yachts that have already finished at their ‘home’ port. We may know the overall winner before the last yachts are still on The Race track making for their ‘home’ port cross the finish line in their home port. We may not know the winner until the yachts starting from Hamilton Island finish back there.. The Race will span from 25th June 2011 to late November 2011. The overall elapsed time - Start/Finish Port to Start/finish Port is on average 110 days. Races within the Race Each passage between stop-over ports is a race within the ‘Around Australia Ocean Race’ creating a number of new races such as Fremantle to Esperance, Esperance to Adelaide, Adelaide to Melbourne (via Hobart and King Island), Hamilton Island to Cairns, Cairns to Darwin, Darwin to Broome, Broome to Fremantle, each very different with plenty to keep the racing strategists busy. The Melbourne to Sydney Race is being reinstated in conjunction with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria. Existing Races such as the Audi Sydney Gold Coast Race, the Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Race are incorporated. The Race event format has paved the way already for some of the hottest Eastern States and New Zealand yachts to enter in numbers.
